Uzbekistan 14/07/2008 Uzbek parliament’s lower house resolves on several issues
Chairman of Committee of Legislative Chamber for democratic institutions, non-state organizations and self-governing bodies of citizens Akmal Saidov took a floor at the session. He spoke of a particular significance of the work now gradually accomplished for over the years of independence in Uzbekistan to establish the developed system of democratic institutions.

Uzbekistan adopted the laws "On non-state non-profit organizations", "On public funds", "On guarantees of activity of non-state non-profit organizations", and other important documents in terms of providing for constitutional rights of citizens to actively participate in governing the public and state affairs, as well as in reforms underway in the country.

The joint session of Kengashs (Councils) of Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 3 July 2008 resolved on establishing the Public fund to support non-state non-profit organizations and other institutions of civil society at the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the parliamentary commission to administer the means of the fund.

On 10 July, upon the joint resolution of Kengashs of parliament Chambers the Provision on Public fund to support the non-state non-profit organizations and other institutions of civil society at the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was approved.

Also, the lawmakers of both chambers of national parliament approved the Provision on parliamentary commission to administer the means of the Public fund, as well as the make-up of the parliamentary commission.

The lawmakers who spoke at the session have noted the growing role of NGOs in further democratizing and liberalizing the Uzbek society, implementing the Independent Uzbekistan development program put forward by President Islam Karimov at the joint session of Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis on 25 January 2008.

At the same time, according to the newspapers, the lawmakers have underscored the need to constantly assist the NGOs in addressing the set objectives with involvement of bodies of power at the local levels, as well as mass media.

On the outcomes of discussions the session has resolved on approving the joint resolutions of Kengash of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Kengash of Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 3 July and 10 July 2008.
