Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe plans to pay a visit to Uzbekistan in October 2015, The Japan Times reported.
Shinzo Abe initially planned to visit the five countries of Central Asia in late August, but had to reschedule the trip after the current Diet session (parliament) was extended to late September to provide more time to deliberate controversial national security bills.
Abe plans to visit Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan over several days in mid- or late October, the report said.
During the tour, Abe intends to communicate Japan’s stance of aiding development in the countries by boosting private-sector investment and trade in natural resources.
Abe will also convey Japan’s policy of helping the nations improve their infrastructure by extending official development assistance.
An inflow of terrorists and narcotics from Afghanistan has been a serious cause of concern in the region. Thus Japan will also provide assistance with the construction of border control facilities and access to narcotics detection equipment.
In Uzbekistan, Abe plans to pledge Japan’s assistance in developing that nation’s communications infrastructure.
The trip would be the first by a Japanese prime minister to Central Asia since Junichiro Koizumi visited Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in August 2006.
