EU appoints its Special Envoy to Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Peter Burian has been appointed at the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia.
The Council of the European Union has appointed Peter Burian as EU Special Representative for Central Asia.
Peter Burian will replace at this post Janos Herman, who was appointed to this post in April 2014.
Mr Burian will take up his duties immediately whereas his mandate as EU Special Representative initially lasts until 30 April 2016.
The Special Representative is tasked with promoting EU political coordination in Central Asia, monitoring the implementation of the EU Central Asia Strategy and supporting regional security in the region.
Mr Burian, most recently Secretary of State at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has an extensive career in the Slovak diplomatic service. His positions include those of ambassador to NATO and envoy to the United States of America.
