Senate of Uzbekistan adopts resolution on amnesty

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved a resolution on amnesty in connection with the 22nd anniversary of the Constitution of Uzbekistan on 14 November 2014.
The amnesty will be applied to those, who committed crimes, which are not dangerous to the society.
It is planned the release of women, those who were under 18 when committing a crime, as well as men at the age of over 60 and foreign citizens.
Persons, who were sentenced for the first time for their participation in activities of illegal organizations and did not commit heavy crimes, as well as strongly decided to return to correct path, will be also pardoned.
The amnesty will not apply to persons, jailed for life, sentenced for deliberate murder and dangerous crime.
The Senate also determined order of use of resolution on amnesty. It says that the cases on pardoning will be considered at courts.
Senators, MPs, regional representatives of Human Rights Commissionaire of Oliy Majlis and others will undertake control over execution of the resolution on amnesty and transparency of the process.
It is also planned to realize measures directed at social adaptation and protection of people, freed from punishment.
Over 69,500 people were pardoned in Uzbekistan in line with an act of amnesty, which was adopted in connection with the 21st anniversary of the Constitution of Uzbekistan.
According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, 43,080 of them were released from criminal responsibility and punishment, and 3,230 people – from jails and investigation cells.
