Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First-ever HIV Hotline will be launched in Uzbekistan on 6 August 2014.
The Tashkent AIDS Center will provide technical assistance in partnership with a UNDP project working to strengthen national capacities to address emerging challenges in fighting the spread of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Hotline is symbolically named as ‘Life Line’.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been very supportive of the launch of the hotline. In the opening address a representative from the Ministry of Health highlighted the importance of this initiative in HIV prevention across the country.
A representative from UNDP Uzbekistan noted the contribution of the Republican AIDS Center in combating HIV/AIDS and the close collaboration between UNDP and the Tashkent city AIDS Center in launching the hotline.
As the first and only hotline in Uzbekistan the ‘Life Line’ was set-up to raise awareness on prevention, testing and treatment of HIV, as well as provide contacts details of organizations working in this field.
By calling 230-75-29 from any part of Uzbekistan, the caller will have the opportunity to get answers to questions related to HIV. ‘Life Line’ operators are qualified and experienced specialists.
The hotline will work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m from Monday through Friday, in addition to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The caller’s number will be encoded and consultations will be private and anonymous. ‘Life Line’ services are free.
