Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP), its faction in the parliament, Central Election Commission, Account Chambers and Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan held a roundtable dedicated to ensuring equal conditions for political parties and their candidates in upcoming elections to Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majls of Uzbekistan and local representative bodies in December 2014.
Uzbekistan amended Constitution to give more power to political parties. In particular, the party, which wins majority in parliament, proposes candidates to the post of the Prime Minister and can express vote of no confidence to the head of the government. The parliament will also consider report of the Prime Minister on social-economic development of the country, etc.
The changes to election legislation were also introduced to clarify forms and methods of pre-election agitation, ensuring equal conditions for candidates and political parties at the election campaign.
It was noted that recently adopted law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some articles of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan (articles 32, 78, 93, 98, 103 and 117)” plays key role in improving system of checks and balances.
According to UzLiDeP members, the changes to the Constitution provides great opportunities to the political parties and responsibility for reforms and achieving goals to become part of democratically developed counties.
The parties should be ready to present their positions and programmes to voters directed at solving existing problems. The clear set goals will encourage voters to vote to this or that party.
UzLiDeP underlined that real elections can be achieved if equal conditions are created to all parties and their candidates. It was noted that election campaign in Uzbekistan is financed via Central Election Commission.
During t he event, the participants exchanged opinion on financing election campaign, requirements of the legislation, instructions of the election campaign, etc.
The participants also discussed new forms of agitation at election campaign and adhering to legislation during the campaign.
