UNECE mission pays visit to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) paid a visit to Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to the ministry, the mission visited Uzbekistan within work on preparation of the Review of habitation and land use in Uzbekistan.
The UNECE has been prearing national reviews since 1996 and the reviews analyze habitation, city development, management of land resources, as well as gives recommendations on improving legislation in habitation and land use. The reviews allow to compare achievements of the country to other countries.
International organization expressed interest in preparing the Review of habitation and land use of Uzbekistan.
The UNDP Country Office in Uzbekistan offered technical and financial assistance to prepare the review, while the World Bank provide consulting assistance to develop recommendations on improving some procedures in land use.
The mission of the UNECE arrived in Uzbekistan on 11 June 2014 to participate in the process of preparing national review.
The Government of Uzbekistan at the assistance of the UNDP and World Bank held a seminar “Approaches and the best practices in town-buildings and organisation of the use of land” in Tashkent on 12-13 June 2014 within the visit of the mission.
The seminar served as platform for discussion of current issues and perspectives of city and rural development, land management, housing construction, increasing energy efficiency of the buildings, introduction of modern technologies with participation of the UNECE, World Bank, representatives of the state bodies, construction organizations and other institutions of Uzbekistan.
Gulnara Roll, Head of Housing and Land Management Unit of the UNECE and head of the mission, underlined that other countries should use experience of Uzbekistan on city planning, development of rural housing construction, as well as solving issues related to urbanization and raising quality of life-standards of population in rural areas.
Within the mission, Ministry of Economy, the UNECE and the UNDP signed a memorandum of understanding, which became a foundation for further cooperation in preparing National review on habitation and land use in Uzbekistan.
The work of the UNECE mission continued till 20 June 2014 and the delegation held negotiations with ministries and departments of Uzbekistan to discuss main aspects of preparation of national review and collection of necessary materials for it. The mission also familiarized with wide-scale works in urban and rural house construction.
It is worth to mention that Uzbekistan has been implementing a programme of individual house construction on standard projects in rural areas since 2009. In last five years, over 33,500 individual houses on standard projects with total area of 4.5 million square meters were constructed at 159 rural areas.
At the same time, Uzbekistan constructed 750 km of roads, 1,600 km of water and gas supply networks, over 800 objects of social, production and market infrastructure.
