Delegation of KFAED pays visit to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Kuwait, which includes representatives of Ministry of Education, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Kuwait Information Agency, students of universities and schools, are paying visit to Uzbekistan.
The visit will last till 8 February 2014. Within the visit, the delegation was received at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade, Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education, Republican Center for pectoral surgery named after Vahidov.
The sides considered current state and perspectives of bilateral relations, fruitful and beneficial cooperation. The delegation will also held meetings at the Academy of Public Administration. They will also visit sights in Tashkent and Samarkand, Jahon reported.
Within the bilateral cooperation, Uzbekistan and Kuwait signed several agreements, which serve as solid legal base for expanding multilateral cooperation.
Uzbekistan and KFAED have been cooperating since 1997 with the agreement on financing of the project “Improving water supply in Nukus city and Urgench city”. In line with the agreement, the Fund provided US$20 million to Uzbekistan.
In early 2004, the sides signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Government of Uzbekistan and KFAED, which envisages implementation of nine projects in Uzbekistan in such areas as healthcare, energy, improving land-reclamation and water supply for US$215 million.
The Fund helped to realize such projects as “Electrification of railroad “Tashkent (Toqimachi)-Angren” and “Equipment of 171 branches of extreme medical aid in central district and city hospitals with medical equipment”.
Currently, the Fund participates in realization of the projects “Equipment of the Republican specialized center for cardiosurgey with high technological equipment” and “Rehabilitation of irrigation network and drainage system of Jizzakh and Surkhandarya regions”.
During the visit of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Uzbekistan in 2008, KFAED and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation, which laid foundation for implementation of 10 projects for US$375.2 million, including project on construction and reconstruction of Guzar-Chim-Kukdala road (73 km).
