Uzbekistan plans to attract JICA loan to construct Turakurgan TPS

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan is planning to attract loan of the Japan Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) for US$650 million to construction of Turakurgan thermal power station (TPS) in Namangan region, east of Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported quoting source in the Uzbek Government.
The source said that the schedule of joint works was approved in early 2014 and the Japanese side should complete project assessment in April. The loan agreement can be signed in May-June 2014.
Uzbekenergo state joint stock company started construction of Turakurgan thermal power station with the preliminary cost of US$1 billion.
The project envisages construction of the station with two steam-gas plants with the capacity of 450 megawatt each. The enterprise will produce 7 billion KWH electricity a year. The station will be constructed in three years.
The first power generating unit will be commissioned in 2006, and the second – 2017. It is planned to announce a tender on supply of technologic equipment in the first half of 2014.
Along with JICA loan, it is planned to finance the project due to a loan of Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and own resources of Uzbekenergo.
Construction of new power station will ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers in Ferghana region (Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions, in east of Uzbekistan).
