Uzbek Foreign Trade Minister meets Latvian FM

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan, Elyor Ganiyev, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia said.
In advance of the upcoming visit to Latvia by the President of Uzbekistan on 16 and 17 October this year, the parties discussed the current matters of cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan.
Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs noted that economic cooperation between both countries was progressing well, including contacts in transport, transit and education. One of priorities for Latvia during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2015 is promoting cooperation with Central Asian countries.
Minister Ganiev observed that Uzbekistan sew Latvia as the most important partner in the Baltic region, and the presidential visit will have a major role in laying out directions for further cooperation.
Mr Ganiev also accentuated that Latvia’s upcoming accession to the Euro area is a considerable factor behind the intensifying of economic contacts. Latvia is Uzbekistan’s third largest trade partner among the European Union member states.
