Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with the Acting Chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ukraine Leonid Kozhara, who is paying an official visit to Uzbekistan, at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 11 October 2013.
Greeting the guest, Islam Karimov noted that the Minister’s arrival in Uzbekistan allows, first and foremost, to directly discuss the pressing issues in bilateral relations as well as international and regional topics, and to exchange views on the agenda of the Ukrainian chairmanship in the OSCE.
It was stressed at the meeting that Uzbekistan regards the Ukraine as an important and time-tested partner who wields a considerable economic, industrial and intellectual potential, an advanced agriculture, transport and social infrastructure.
The regular interstate dialogue has facilitated the further expansion and enhancement of ties between our two nations in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian areas.
It was noted that Uzbekistan and the Ukraine project similar or close stance toward many issues in regional and international politics that has allowed for a rewarding interaction within multilateral institutions like the UN, CIS and OSCE.
The mutual trade turnover in 2012 exceeded one billion US dollars – a 60 percent increase from the previous-year indicator. Notwithstanding the intricate and ambiguous phenomena in the world economy, the positive dynamics of growth in the bilateral trade has persevered in the current year, as well. To this end, it was stated during the meeting that both sides are equally interested in the steadfast diversification and enlargement of its volumes, along with the materialization of joint investment projects across a variety of sectors of economy.
Leonid Kozhara thanked Uzbekistan’s President for a warm welcome and the opportunity to candidly and constructively discuss development priorities in the bilateral relations as well as other issues the two countries share interest. On behalf of his nation’s leadership, the head of the Ukrainian foreign ministry confirmed willingness to continue with the consolidation of multifaceted cooperation with Uzbekistan on the long-term and pragmatic basis.
