UNICEF’s New Representative in Uzbekistan hands over credentials to Uzbek FM

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The new UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan Mr. Robert Fuderich presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Abdulaziz Kamilov today.
Mr. Robert Fuderich took charge as UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan on 17 September 2013. Before this assignment, he served as Representative in Jamaica and the UN-Administered Province of Kosovo for a period of four years, in both these duty stations.
Prior to working in Kosovo, Mr. Fuderich was the co-head of the Basic Social Service Team on a joint UN-World Bank Mission in Sudan to prepare the 6-year rehabilitation strategy in preparation for the North-Sudan Peace Accords Donor’s Conference in Oslo, Norway.
Mr. Fuderich began his career in UNICEF in 1994 when he served as the Education Adviser in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro and Macedonia during the historic break-up of former Yugoslavia (1993–1995). After the Dayton Peace Accords brought relative peace to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mr. Fuderich participated in the reconstruction efforts as the UNICEF Education Specialist in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina (1996-1997).
Mr. Fuderich acquired a good knowledge of the Central and Eastern Europe and Commonwealth of Independents States (CEE/CIS) region while he was posted in UNICEF’s Regional Office for CEE/CIS in Geneva, Switzerland as the Monitoring & Evaluation Regional Adviser from 1997-2002, and then as the Education & Early Childhood Development Regional Adviser from 2002 to 2005. During this 7 year period, he traveled extensively to the 28 countries of the region, including Uzbekistan.
Mr. Fuderich joined the United Nations in 1990 as Basic Education Adviser for UNESCO in Afghanistan. His association with the UN family however, goes back to his childhood when he participated in UNICEF’s Halloween ‘Trick or Treat’ fundraising drives in his little hometown in Pennsylvania in the USA.
Aside from the UN, Mr. Fuderich has extensive experience in the NGO world working with refugees as the Director of Teacher Training for Afghan Refugees (World Learning) in Quetta, Pakistan from 1988-90 and as Director of Field Programmes (International Rescue Committee) and Refugee Relief Field Officer (CARE Interantional) on the Thailand-Cambodian border from 1979-82.
Mr. Fuderich is a teacher, trainer and planner by training and was also a high school teacher in Rock Point School (Navajo Indian Reservation), Arizona, U.S.A, a teacher- educator at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, a primary school teacher (Peace Corps) in Nepal, English Instructor in Thailand at Chulalonghorn and Silpakorn Universities and a Youth Crisis Counselor in inner-city Birmingham, Ala (VISTA).
He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, USA and a Master of Education in Non-formal Education and Training from University of Massachusetts/Center for International Education-Amherst, Massachusetts, USA. He is married to Toon Fuderich for 32 years and has two sons, Kit (27) and Tim (25).
