Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 October 2013 Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) in partnership with University of Westminster (London) and the UNESCO Chair in Knowledge Economy hosted an international conference: “Innovation for Sustainable Development and its impact on Welfare Improvement and Societal Change”.
The conference brought together more than 30 speakers from universities and other institutions of Uzbekistan, as well as foreign countries. The main speakers were Ms. Krista Pikkat (Head of the UNESCO office in Tashkent), Professor Yim Jae Geol (Dongguk University, South Korea), Aleksey Semyonov (Head of Quality Enhancement, WIUT), Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos (University of Westminster, London) and Dr. Franco Lombardi (Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent).
Focusing on the concept of innovation and its importance in the countries of Central Asia, the following areas were touched in detail:
Business innovation for social and cultural development
- Innovation in Higher Education - Higher Education for sustainable growth and development
- The role of the legal framework to increase business innovation and the improvement of social support
- Information and communication technologies in business innovation, as a factor of social change
Being the fourth in a row, the annual international conference suggests that the Westminster International University in Tashkent is heading towards transforming into a leading research institution, which would greatly enrich the curriculum and student experience. In addition to the research activities during the current year, the university also participated in the monitoring of other universities of Uzbekistan and provided professional support for English teachers of these institutions.
