Uzbekistan, Japan hold political consultations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Delegations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Japan held next round of political consultations in Tokyo on 26 September 2013, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
During the meeting of the Uzbek delegation with Special Representative for Central Asia and Caucasus and Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Norio Maruyama, the sides analyzed current state and perspective directions of further developing bilateral relations in political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian, as well as other spheres.
The special attention was paid to course of implementation of agreements, reached in the result of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Japan in February 2011.
Currently, firm legal framework was created in the Uzbek-Japanese relations, which are based on joint statement on friendship, strategic partnership and cooperation. The sides accrued significant experience in mutual beneficial exchanges in all areas of interaction, including between state and public structures, business circles and civil society institutes.
The eleventh joint session of the Uzbek-Japanese and Japanese-Uzbek committees on economic cooperation, which was held in Tashkent on 5 March 2013, affirmed significant interest of two states in expanding bilateral trade and high potential of investment cooperation. It was emphasized that the parties support the participation of leading Japanese companies in large joint high-technological projects in Uzbekistan, such as the introduction of co-generation gas turbine technology at the Tashkent thermal power station, modernization of Navoi thermal power plant and a number of other projects in the fields of electricity and transportation.
At the meeting, the sides also considered issues of expanding contacts among educational, scientific, cultural and tourism organizations of Uzbekistan and Japan.
Within the consultations, the sides exchanged opinion on some international and regional issues of mutual interest.
