Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 September 2013, the high-level meeting was held in Tashkent to highlight the progress in the direction of "effective governance" within the framework of mid-term review of the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the years 2010-2015.
The meeting was opened by UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Stephen Priesner who noted that due to the “Concept of further deepening of democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country”, which was declared by the President in November 2010 between the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP, new perspectives and opportunities for joint initiatives in the field of democratic governance and reforms were set up. In this concern, there was outlined the importance of support on building up the institutional capacity of partners, particularly the improvement of operation on delivery of public services by public agencies, inclusion of civil society in decision-making, the modernization in the field of civil justice and parliamentary development as well as promotion of the rights of women and their active involvement in the development process of the country.
Thus, the main objective of the Mid-Term Review of CPAP for 2010-2015 is to assess the progress in the framework of implementation of the current country program, making changes and additions in order to achieve the defined objectives and outcomes. The event was attended by representatives of the UNDP, the ministries and departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as private sector and the institutes of civil society.
Head of the Good Governance unit of UNDP Uzbekistan Aziza Umarova shared the information on the progress in the implementation of the projects under CPAP. There were special mention on initiatives in a sphere of improvement of public service, namely for the first time three One Stop Shops under the hokimiyats were established to improve the quality and timeliness of delivery of public services, moreover, the creation of a number of social enterprises and support for social partnership and delivery of social services to the population were initiated. She also noted the importance of further cooperation with national partners in the field of e-governance, anti-corruption and support on parliamentary development.
Due to this meeting, UNDP and its partners have analyzed the main achieved results and learned lessons, and identified the areas for further partnership.
