Some 5,200 Uzbek Muslims to perform Hajj pilgrimage this year

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Saudi Arabia kept quota for number of pilgrims from Uzbekistan for Hajj-2013 season, the press service of the Committee of Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Minister of Uzbekistan said.
Earlier, the Committee said that the Saudi Arabian authorities decided to cut number of pilgrims by 20% for all countries due to construction works at Mecca and Medina holy sights, as well as reconstruction of airports. The Saudi side informed the Uzbek officials on the decision.
Uzbekistan completed all preparation works to sending 5,400 people to Hajj pilgrimage on 15 June 2013. In this connection, the Committee of Religious Affairs sent a letter to the Ministry of Hajj Affairs of Saudi Arabia with request to keep allocated quota for Uzbekistan.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia held several meetings at the Minister of Culture and Information of Saud Arabia Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja and Minister of Hajj Affairs of Saudi Arabia Bandar bin Mohammad Hajjar to discuss this issue.
The committee said that all attempts of Uzbekistan to keep quota for Hajj-2013 were successful.
Ministry of Hajj Affairs of Saudi Arabia sent an official letter on 24 September and informed Uzbekistan that the Office of the King of Saudi Arabia considered the issue and set quota for Uzbekistan at 5,200 people.
The committee noted that currently works are underway to obtain entry visas to Saudi Arabia.
