Uzbekistan to send US$700m to modernization of Takhiatash thermal power station

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo state joint stock company will carry out modernization of the Takhiatash thermal power station in 2014-2018.
The company will direct about US$700 million to modernization of the Takhiatash thermal power station.
The pre-project of modernization was approved and it is planned to launch financing of the project in early 2014 and announce tender for selection of the contractor.
The project envisages construction of two combined-cycle plants with the capacity of 250 megawatt each with removal of old energy blocks. Earlier, it was planned to construct one combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 230-350 megawatt in four years.
The project will be financed due to loan of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for US$300 million and resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development, as well as own resources of Uzbekenergo state joint stock company.
The capacity of Takhiatash thermoelectric power station is 730 megawatt. The first block was commissioned in 1956 and the last fifth – in 1967. The station provides electricity to Karakalpakstan Republic and Khorezm region.
