Uzbek leader to visit Latvia in October

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will pay a visit to the Republic of Latvia in October 2013, the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev said today.
He announced about upcoming the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Latvia at the fourth session of the Uzbek-Latvian intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation.
During his speech he said that the fourth session of the Uzbek-Latvian intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation is taking place on the eve of the upcoming the visit of Islam Karimov to Latvia. It is expected that the visit will take place in October.
Elyor Ganiev said: “We absolutely sure that upcoming visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Latvia will give new impulse to development of our relations and lift them to new quality level.”
It is worth to mention that President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Latvia twice – in June 1995 and April 2004.
Uzbekistan and Latvia set the most favourable trade regime. Trade turnover between two nations reached US$243.2 million in 2012 and US$125.6 million in Janaury-June 2013.
There are 22 enterprises with Latvian investments in Uzbekistan, including six enterprises with 100% Latvian capital. They operate in such areas as furniture production, textile, oil and gas processing, polygraph, food production, logistics services, etc.
Currently ten Latvian companies accredited their offices at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan.
