Uzbekenergo starts construction of Turakurgan TPS

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State joint stock company Uzbekenergo started construction of Turakurgan thermal power station with the capacity of 900 megawatt in Namangan region, KazTag reported quoting source in Uzbekenergo.
The source said that general construction works have been started. The new station will provide electricity to Ferghana Valley, which includes Namangan, Ferghana and Andijan regions.
The project envisages construction of the station with two steam-gas plants with the capacity of 450 megawatt each. The enterprise will produce 7 billion KWH electricity a year. The station will be constructed in three years.
The cost of the project is estimated at over US$1 billion and it will be financed due to loans of international financial institutes and Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, as well as own resources of Uzbekenergo.
Uzbekenergo launched electricity supply line Novo-Angren thermal power station – Uzbekistan substation, which allowed to supply electricity from central part of the country to Ferghana Valley. Earlier, Ferghana Valley used electricity imported from Kyrgyzstan.
Power system of Uzbekistan has 45 power stations with total capacity of 12,400 megawatt, of which 16 power stations with the capacities of 12.04 megawatt belong to Uzbekenergo.
Uzbekistan increased electricity production by 0.2% year-on-year to 52.534 billion KWH in 2012.
