MPs discuss protection of cultural heritage objects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis on science, education, culture and sport held a session to discuss execution of the law “On protection of the cultural heritage objects and their use” and law “On export and import of cultural valubles” in Kashkadarya region on 28 June 2013.
At the meeting, it was noted that Kashkadarya region carried out great work on preserving, rehabilitation and repair of cultural heritage objects and promoting heritage of Uzbek people among new generation and foreigners.
It was said that currently the programme on research, repair and rehabilitation of cultural heritage objects in Kashkadarya region in 2013-2017 is implemented in the region.
According to data, there are 1,022 heritage objects, of which 775 are archeological objects, 173 – architecture objects and 25 – sculptures and 20 – pilgrimage sites. It was noted that there are need to inventory objects and re-register all cultural heritage objects.
It was underlined that major part of objects has no protection zone signs. Almost 75% of objects have no protection zone documented. Ministry of Culture and Sport of Uzbekistan said that only 25.7% of cultural heritage have cadaster documents.
The participants said that protected archeological objects are used by individuals and legal entities for various purposes. It was stated that salinization negatively impact architecture projects. It was underlined that it is necessary to resume irrigation ditches and carry out irrigation works.
At the end of the session, the committee adopted a corresponding decision based on proposals and recommendations.
