Uzbek FM receives new South Korean envoy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea Lee Wook-heon on 28 June 2013.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the envoy handed over copies of credentials to the Uzbek minister.
At the meeting, the sides underlined dynamic development of bilateral relations in politics, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres. They affirmed mutual interest in further strengthening of multilateral cooperation.
The sides discussed course of implementation of agreements, reached within the state visit of the President Islam Karimov to Seoul in September 2012. Within the visit, Uzbekistan and South Korea inked agreements for over US$5 billion, of which US$3 billion are direct investments.
Currently, the Republic of Korea is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan.
Bilateral trade turnover between two nations rose by 31.4% year-on-year to US$2.14 billion in 2012, of which US$113.9 million were exports and US$2.026 billion - imports of Uzbekistan.
Number of enterprises with Korean capital in Uzbekistan exceeds 400, of which 67 are with 100% Korean investments. They work in such areas as food, chemistry, mining, light, trade, machinery, tourism and other sectors.
At the meeting, the sides also considered schedule of the upcoming Uzbek-Korean contacts at various levels.
