EU to help Uzbekistan in UNWTO accession

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Commission of European Union can issue a no-string technical assistance at the size of US$1 million to Uzbekistan for implementation of project “Assisting process of accession of Uzbekistan to World Trade Organization” in 2013-2015.
Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan issued a resolution "On measures on attracting to Uzbekistan of no-string technical assistance (grants) of donor countries, international and foreign governmental and non-governmental organizations for 2013-2015" on 29 March 2013.
The project “Assisting process of accession of Uzbekistan to World Trade Organization” was included to the list of projects, which are developed in cooperation with donor countries, international and foreign governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The resolution said that the project is aimed at improving professional and negotiation skills of team of Uzbekistan on accession to the WTO.
Within the project, Uzbekistan plans to study experience of member-states and accessing states to WTO, which have similar economy like Uzbekistan, to mitigate negative consequences of accession to the organization.
The project will assist Uzbekistan to harmonize its legislation in line with the WTO rules and gain support of key members of the WTO within multilateral and bilateral negotiations.
The project will also ensure favourable conditions and platforms for Uzbekistan’s membership in the WTO. The Uzbek officials will attend various seminars, conferences, roundtables and other events related to accession process.
