Rio Tinto commenced exploration for copper in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Australian – British Rio Tinto Mining and Exploration Ltd. has commenced exploration for copper at Gava prospect area in Namangan region, according to a representative of Rio Tinto office in Uzbekistan.
Operator Gava Exploration LLC (a 100% subsidiary of Rio Tinto) was established in the Republic of Uzbekistan for implementation of the project.
An initial exploration work program for 2013 has been developed by Rio Tinto together with the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on geology and mineral resources (Goscomgeology).
As previously announced, in December last year Goscomgeology of Uzbekistan issued Rio Tinto a licence for conducting geological studies at the Gava area in Namangan region, perspective for discovery of copper mineralization. The licence issued is valid for 5 years.
The project implementation is approved by an appropriate Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
Currently Rio Tinto is reviewing opportunities to implement other projects in mining and exploration industry of Uzbekistan.
