Uzbekistan, Oman discuss development of economic ties

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The First session of Uzbek-Omani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation was held in Tashkent on 27 March 2013.
The session of intergovernmental commission was organized within the visit of the delegation of Oman led by Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy to Uzbekistan.
Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ghaniev said that the visit of Omani delegation is rated by Uzbekistan as evidence for interest of Oman in establish mutual beneficial and fruitful cooperation with Uzbekistan.
Elyor Ghaniev stated that Uzbekistan is interested in strengthening trade-economic and investment cooperation with Uzbekistan. He said that current level of trade-economic and investment cooperation do not meet huge potential between two states and the sides should boost economic relations.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy said that Oman is considering to invest into Uzbekistan. He said that the delegation of Oman includes 40 people, which represent various sectors.
It was noted that trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Oman was US$75,100 in 2012, which does not meet potential of two nations.
At the session, the sides considered perspective directions of trade-economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Oman, expansion of trade, investments, cooperation in banking-finance sector, oil and gas, culture and art, as well as logistics.
The participants also considered implementation of joint projects at free industrial-economic zone Navoi, special industrial zones Angren and Jizzakh.
