Uzbekistan moves 14 places up in Doing Business ranking

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan significantly improved its position in new ranking of Doing Business-2013 of the World Bank and International Financial Corporation, moving from 168th place in 2011 to 154th place in 2012.
According to “Doing Business 2013: Smarter Regulations for Small and Medium-Size Enterprises assesses”, ten economies are recognized as having the most improved ease of doing business across several areas of regulation as measured by the report: Poland, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Burundi, Costa Rica, Mongolia, Greece, Serbia, and Kazakhstan.
According to report, Uzbekistan kept its position on such criteria as starting a business (90th place), registration of property (138), and trading across borders (185).
At the same time, Uzbekistan improved its positions on such issues as getting electricity (167th place, +5 positions), getting credit (154, +4) and resolving insolvency (73, +51).
The report said positions of Uzbekistan worsened in such criteria as dealing with construction permits (152, -7), protecting investors (139, -3), paying taxes (161, -2) and enforcing contracts (46, -1).
Singapore topped the global ranking on the ease of doing business for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Hong Kong SAR, China,; New Zealand; the United States; and Denmark. Georgia was a new entrant to the top 10.
