Karakalpakstan posts highest GRP growth in 1H 2011

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Karakalpakstan Republic, Jizzakh region and Samarkand regions registered the highest growth of the gross regional product (GRP) in the first half of 2011, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
In the reporting period, Karakalpakstan’s GRP grew by 14.6% year-on-year to 698.2 billion soums. GPR per capita rose by 13.3%.
The committee said that economy of Jizzakh region increased by 14.4% year-on-year to 619.1 billion soums and GRP per capita – 12.5%.
Samarkand region’s GRP grew by 14% year-on-year to 1.63 trillion soums, meanwhile GRP per capital rose by 11.9%, the committee added.
In monetary terms, Tashkent city posted the highest GRP with the volume of 5.962 billion soums (+13.9%). Tashkent region and Kashkadarya region shared the second and third places with the volume of 3.054 trillion soums (+9.5%) and 2.483 trillion soums (+7.9%) respectively.
The lowest GRP growth was registered in Navoi region (5.3%), Kashkadarya region (7.9%) and Ferghana region (+8.4%). In monetary terms, the lowest GRP was recorded in Syrdarya region – 442.9 billion soums.
As reported earlier, Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) made up 32.09 trillion soums in January-June 2011, which grew by 8% year-on-year.
