MTS-Uzbekistan, former Uzdunrobita, announced successful test launch of the high-speed data transmission and Internet network on the basis of the latest EDGE technology in Tashkent city, the company’s press release says.
EDGE (Ehanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) is a logical extension of the GPRS technology, supporting high channel capacity and faster data transmission – up to 384 Kbit/sec. It is also worth noting that EDGE technology is another evolutionary step in the development of mobile communication bringing it closer to the third generation networks.
The integration of the EDGE technology will allow MTS Uzbekistan to provide its subscribers new broadband mobile solutions and services, including online audio and video.
EDGE technology does not require additional setups: within the EDGE coverage zone, a mobile phone supporting this function, will find it automatically.
At this time, the new network is being pilot tested and covers a part of Tashkent.
