Art Week Style.Uz to host conference, master classes

07/10/2010 10:19

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- It would be naive to think that Art Week Style.Uz is only about shows and artistic demonstrations. In this major project devised by the Fund Forum, a considerable role is attributed to knowledge and experience exchanges undertaken by professionals who have achieved significant success in their respective spheres.

The international conference on “Preservation of the Historical and Cultural Legacy: Theory, Practice and Collecting”, to be held during the Art Week, will focus on issues related to the historical and cultural legacy as a whole, as well as issues in preserving cultural legacies through techniques in collecting historical artifacts.

The conference speakers will include prominent archeologists, art historians, museum experts, historians, philosophers, culture specialists, and ethnographers from France, Japan, Spain, Egypt, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Participants in the upcoming conference will learn a lot of new and interesting information on the subject of preserving culture and historical legacies.

The disparity between business and education in the sphere of fashion and design is a pressing problem in our country. And ways of addressing it will be talked about during the round-table “Dialogue: Education and Business” which will be attended by local and international representatives of universities, colleges as well as employers and donors.

A master class is a source of individual practical experience. Oftentimes, a master class, especially if delivered by a high-caliber professional, will give participants a lot more insight than if they attended a series of theoretical lectures. Representatives of Italy’s eminent Salvatore Ferragamo, famous Russian artist and designer Alexander Ishenko, guests from London College of Fashion are among the professionals who can give a lot in terms of skills to budding artists and designers. In their turn, specialists from the Tashkent Institute of Textiles and Light Industry will share their own experience in applying new design development methods with the use of computer software in making carpets by hand.

A blend of theory and practice is one of the complex but effective ways of teaching. It is this method that the tandem of lectures and presentations on “Universal Fashion” is built on. The theme will be elaborated on by Professor Oda Akira of Tokyo College of Fashion and Design and designer Naoshi Sawayanagi. Mr. Akira, a fashion journalist and a professor at Tokyo’s Sugino Fashion College, is one of the foremost lecturers in the fashion industry. His powerful theory will be boosted by the young, energetic and up-and-coming fashion designer Naoshi Sawayanagi, whose brand “Naoshi+DENIM” has since 2009 generated new designer proposals.
