Veteran Ventspils striker Vits Rimkus opened the scoring with four minutes of the first-half left to play and with Pakhtakor staring elimination in the eye Uzbekistan international Islom Inomov grabbed the equaliser ten minutes from the final whistle, as regulation time ended 1-1.
Pakhtakor’s reward for their second shootout win over the two-time Latvian champions is a meeting with Lithuania’s FBK Kaunus, while the other semi-final sees BATE Borisov, the Belarusian side who defeated the Tashkent giants 2-1 in the group stage of the competition, take on Khazar Lenkoran from Azerbaijan.
