Over the past decade, the number of universities in Uzbekistan has increased 3.2 times — reaching 222 institutions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — According to the National Statistics Committee, as of the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, there are 222 higher education institutions operating in Uzbekistan, including branch campuses.
This marks a significant increase compared to the 2015/2016 academic year, when the number stood at just 69.
In total, the number of higher education institutions has grown by 153 over the past ten years, more than tripling in that period.
The year-by-year growth trajectory is as follows: 69 institutions in the 2015/2016 academic year, 70 in 2016/2017, 72 in 2017/2018, 98 in 2018/2019, 119 in 2019/2020, 127 in 2020/2021, 154 in 2021/2022, 191 in 2022/2023, 219 in 2023/2024, and 222 as of the start of the 2024/2025 academic year.
