Over 1,000 international observers to attend parliamentary elections

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 September 2024, a meeting of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan was held to discuss the accreditation of observers from foreign countries and international organizations, as well as the establishment of an Operational Information Center.

It is expected that more than 1,000 international and foreign observers will be present at the elections. Among them, approximately 400 will come from 50 countries, while around 500 will represent 21 international organizations, including the CIS, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States. Additionally, 60 observers will arrive from electoral commissions of 26 countries.

The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights plans to participate in the elections with a full-scale mission, including about 350 observers, underscoring the importance of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, a decision was made to accredit international observers for participation in the elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes. A portion of observers from organizations such as the CIS and the Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS has also been accredited.

International organizations can submit accreditation applications using the "E-Saylov" information system, which allows data entry in electronic form. New mandates for accredited observers will also be automatically generated through this system.

Additionally, a decision was made to establish an Operational Information Center ("Call-center"). The main tasks of the center include providing real-time legal consultations to citizens, disseminating information about the elections, and ensuring conditions for the realization of civil rights.
