Over 10 countries have start vaccination of the population against COVID-19

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the research center "Our World In Data", the total number of vaccinated people around the world (excluding those vaccinated for research purposes) is, as of 25 December, about 3 million people.

Thus, according to the data, Russia began mass vaccination of the population with the Sputnik V vaccine on 5 December. Argentina also began a vaccination campaign with the Russian vaccine on December 24th. China is also using "its" vaccine, which began vaccination of the population on 19 December.

The rest of the countries use the vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech: Great Britain (from 8 December), USA, Canada and the United Arab Emirates (from 14 December), KSA (from 17 December), Israel (from 19 December), Qatar and Switzerland (from 23 December), Serbia, Kuwait, Mexico, Chile and Costa Rica (from 24 December).

The US and Canada have also been using the Moderna vaccine since 24 December.

At the same time, with the start of mass vaccination, countries faced a number of problems.

1) Special requirements for the storage and transportation temperature of vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V) impose difficulties in the delivery, storage and use of vaccines.

2) The existing base makes it difficult to quickly mass vaccinations, given the increase in vaccination time 6 times against the usual. (It takes about 10 minutes to administer coronavirus vaccines (in particular Pfizer-BioNTech), two to three times longer than the flu shot. It takes two doses per person.)

3. "Vaccination" of developed countries leads to inequality and the threat of an extension of the global pandemic.

According to research, bilateral agreements concluded by developed countries have guaranteed the purchase of 8.8 billion doses of vaccines out of 12 billion planned for production in 2021, while the COVAX program purchased doses sufficient to vaccinate only 250 million people. It is estimated that most people in low-income countries will wait for the COVID-19 vaccine by 2024.

Overall, the mass vaccination against coronavirus has begun and will intensify over time. (By December 31, the EU expects 12.5 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and the US - another 10 million doses.) At the same time, uneven procurement and distribution of vaccines may force most developing countries to purchase vaccines from "less reliable manufacturers".
