The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), Mr. Goran Lennmarker, will visit Uzbekistan 1 May to 3 May and meet with Uzbek officials and participate in the OSCE Regional Heads of Missions meeting in Tashkent.
The visit by Mr. Lennmarker, a member of the Swedish Parliament and chairman of its Foreign Affairs Committee, is part of an official OSCE PA trip to Central Asia to encourage greater parliamentary involvement in the OSCE.
The trip includes visits to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. In February, Mr. Lennmarker paid a brief visit to Turkmenistan. All countries in the region are participating States in the OSCE, and the OSCE PA supports democratic institutions, including national parliaments, in the region.
The OSCE PA delegation include Dr. Kimmo Kiljunen, member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and of the Finnish Parliament and who last year led the OSCE election observation mission to Tajikistan, OSCE PA Secretary General Spencer Oliver, and Deputy Secretary General Vitaly Evseyev.
