One Day on Earth is a documentary work dedicated to present a single day in every corner of the world. The project was inspired by watching musicians from different regions collaborating on stage during the 2008 World festival of Sacred Music, where initial attempts to create music together were awkward but eventually “what was disharmony became harmony, and a beautiful fusion of music came together for the first time”. This led to a similar vision for another universal form of communication—cinema.
On October 10th, 10.10.10, thousands of documentary filmmakers, students and other inspired people launched a simultaneous 24-hours long filming event in 192 countries around the world dedicated to depict a single day on Earth. The result was the production of a unique ‘geo-tagged video archive’ as well as featured film. It follows characters and events that evolve throughout the day and interspersed with expansive global montages that explore the progression of life from birth, to death, to birth again.
Success of the event and steady growth of the community attracted supported from many non-profiting organizations among which is United Nations Development Prgramme whose members encouraged to participate in the filming of the material. Under its initiative event was repeated in 11.11.11 and dedicated to continue until 2015.
During the screening a work will be presented produced from over 3,000 hours of footage, and shot in every country of the world on October 10th, 2010. You are welcome to attend this event.
It is free of charge and open for everyone.
