Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Presidential Resolution “On measures to further improve the quality of the formation of a reserve of athletes in Olympic and Paralympic sports by radically improving the system of sports education” was adopted.
According to the Resolution, on the basis of colleges of the Olympic reserve, colleges of the Olympic and Paralympic reserves are created in the form of an educational institution corresponding to the 5th level of the international standard classifier of education.
From the 2022/2023 academic year (from 1 September 2022):
- the contingent of colleges of the Olympic and Paralympic reserve is formed only for the Olympic and Paralympic sports (with the exception of the national wrestling Kurash and certain sports determined by government decisions);
- on the recommendation of the National Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan, additional quotas of up to 10 percent will be allocated for athletes with disabilities and disabled people who are sent to the relevant departments of the college for Paralympic sports;
- the educational process is carried out on the basis of general secondary education and secondary specialized vocational education;
- quotas for admission to colleges of the Olympic and Paralympic reserve, as well as to children and youth sports schools and specialized children and youth sports schools for men and women from the 2024/2025 academic year are set equal (in the 2022/2023 academic year, the share of women will be 30 percent, in the 2023/2024 academic year - 40 percent, in the 2024/2025 academic year - 50 percent);
- parental fees to partially cover the cost of free (reduced) meals for students are canceled.
The resolution also created a specialized Institute of Higher Sports Excellence on the basis of the Republican College of Olympic Reserve in the form of a state university, implementing a three-year program “Specialty”.
The institute accepts only young people who graduated from colleges of the Olympic and Paralympic reserves and are members of national teams in Olympic sports, depending on their sports results, on the basis of a state grant and selection.
From 1 August 2022, the identification, determination and selection (selection) of talented youth in the regions will be carried out through a special sports system management platform.
