Director-general of UNIStream Suren Ayriyan said that over 1.4 million Uzbek citizens live and work in Russia on regular base. This is over 5% of total population of the country, where families and relatives of these people live. It is natural that there is need for civilized, accessible and quality money transfers. Assistance to relatives is the main reason for their staying in Russia and contributing to its economy.
Suren Ayriyan said that currently each third Uzbek citizen sends money to home with UNIStream international money transfer system. He said that UNIStream cooperates with 11 large financial institutions and number of service points is over 800 in Uzbekistan.
UNIStream official said the system covers over 200 cities and settlements in Uzbekistan. There are 200 service points in Tashkent, 50 in Samarkand, 30 in Andijan and 25 in Ferghana.
Ayriyan said that the clients of the system in Uzbekistan sent and received remittances for almost US$190 million in the third quarter of 2009, which is up by one third compared to previous quarter.
