Number of Female Bus Drivers in Tashkent on the Rise
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The capital of Uzbekistan continues to implement an initiative aimed at attracting more women to the profession of public transport driver. The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with participants of the TALIEV project, is expanding its training program for female bus drivers.
The project initially began with the training of two employees from the joint-stock company “Toshshahartanshizmat,” who are now successfully operating on Tashkent’s bus routes. The positive results of this pilot stage laid the groundwork for scaling up the initiative.
In 2025, 23 women were selected from a pool of 31 applicants to undergo training to obtain Category D driver’s licenses, which authorize them to operate buses. The training program includes 260 hours of theoretical instruction and 224 hours of practical driving sessions, designed to build professional skills.
The Ministry of Transport emphasizes its support for qualified professionals regardless of gender and is committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities while expanding workforce participation and opening new prospects within the transport sector.
