Nuclear Medicine Center to Be Established in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Uzatom Agency and the S. Berezin Medical Institute signed an agreement to implement a joint project for the establishment of a Nuclear Medicine Center in Uzbekistan. The initiative will be carried out with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The document aims to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of high-tech medicine, with a special focus on nuclear medicine as a key component of the country’s oncology care modernization.
As part of the project, a Center will be established and equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies, including PET/CT, cyclotron, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and advanced radiosurgery systems such as gamma knife, cyber knife, or next-generation linear accelerator. The plans also include setting up a laboratory for the production of radiopharmaceuticals, launching radionuclide therapy, and expanding the range of isotope-based diagnostic services.
The S. Berezin Medical Institute, formerly known as the Diagnostic and Treatment Center of the International Institute of Biological Systems (DTC IIBS), was founded in 2003 and specializes in building networks of diagnostic centers that provide the public with access to cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment methods. Today, the Institute operates over 80 diagnostic centers across 60 cities in Russia and other CIS countries, conducting more than 1.5 million MRI and CT scans annually — approximately 4,000 examinations daily.
Ahead of the agreement signing, representatives of the Uzatom Agency visited the Institute’s modern oncology clinic and Proton Therapy Center to gain first-hand insight into its advanced practices. The delegation had the opportunity to assess the infrastructure, organizational model, and technological solutions employed at the facility.
The implementation of this project marks an important step toward the advancement of oncology care and the introduction of cutting-edge medical technologies in Uzbekistan, opening up new opportunities for the diagnosis and treatment of serious illnesses within the country.
