Currently, Uzbekistan realizes several measures on support of small and private businesses as, according to experts, the sector is one of main locomotives of economic development in the country. Uzbekistan created necessary legal base, develops infrastructure and expands preferences for new businesses.

Announcement of 2011 as the Year of Small Business and Private Entrepreneurship serves as new stage for development of the sector.

Uzbekistan developed a special state programme, which is directed at further improvement of all conditions for developing private sector. It is worth to mention NGOs and civil society institutes are actively participating in its implementation.

One of such organizations is Institute for studying civil society. The institute will use its resources in the region to explain the programme among business, NGOs, political parties and state bodies.

Recently, several such events were held in Urgench, Bukhara and Nukus. Deputies of local Councils, businesses, representatives of NGOs and youth participated at the events. During the discussions, the participants considered issues on raising role of MPs and deputies of local councils on supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, creating favourable conditions. They also analyzed problems in places, which hinder to stable development of the businesses.

Representatives of NGOs also presented the results of monitoring of situation in places and recommendations on further improvement of environment for businesses, attracting youth and women to business activity.

The participants developed recommendations, which will be directed to state bodies and other competent organizations for their consideration and implementation.
