NGMK launches complex for uranium mining
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) commissioned starting complex on uranium production at the Central Kyzylkums, the company said.

The complex was commissioned at geotechnological pit at Maylisay deposit, NGMK said.

Maylisay deposit was found in 1960s and NGMK included it to its resource base in late 1980s. The demand for uranium decreased in early 1990s and the deposit was suspended.

The complex on uranium production will expand raw material base of NGMK. It is expected that the complex will reach its designed capacity by 2012.

The cost of the project on uranium production at Maylisay deposit is US$16.6 million. NGMK financed the project due to own resources, gazeta.uz reported.

In 2008-2009, NGMK launched similar complexes at Severniy Kanimeh and Alendy with the cost of US$20 million. Total investment on mining of these deposits is US$76 million. The complexes will reach their designed capacity by 2012 as well.

NGMK plans to modernize uranium production by the end of 2012 and invest US$165 million. The combine will finance the projects due to own resources and foreign credits.

The company plans to increase uranium production by 1.5 times by 2012 in the result of the modernization.
