New WB country manager for Uzbekistan assumes office
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The World Bank Country Office in Uzbekistan announced that Mr. Takuya Kamata has assumed duty as the Country Manager to the Republic of Uzbekistan as of 15 November 2010.

In his new position, Mr. Kamata’s priorities will be to partner with and support the country in moving towards a more diversified economy and to help enhance regional coordination on natural resource management.

In Uzbekistan the Bank’s current program is focused on helping Uzbekistan improve access to health care; further develop basic education; rehabilitate irrigation infrastructure and support private farmers; bring safe potable water to rural and urban areas; restore and develop municipal services; and invest in public goods, energy and climate change issues.

A Japanese national, Mr. Kamata joined the World Bank in 1990 as a Young Professional. He has held several positions since working for the Africa, the East Asia and Pacific regions of the Bank. An expert in infrastructure, Mr. Kamata led policy dialogue, country sector strategy formulation, country sector coordination, quality assurance, peer review, lending and economic sector works in the water supply, urban, and environment sectors.

Before joining the Bank he worked for McKinsey and Company, and the Bank of Tokyo. Mr. Kamata is a graduate of the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago, USA, and the Waseda University, Japan.
