New UNESCO-Uzbekistan International Prize named after Al-Biruni established

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the 220th session of the UNESCO Executive Council held on October 22, 2024, a decision was made to establish the UNESCO-Uzbekistan International Prize named after Al-Biruni. This important initiative was initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The prize aims to support ethical research and development in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). It will be awarded every two years for outstanding projects that promote ethics and inclusivity in AI and strengthen international scientific cooperation.

An independent international jury will select the laureates, who will receive a cash award, a certificate, and a medal in recognition of their contributions to global science.

The first award ceremony is scheduled for November 2025 in Samarkand during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. This highlights the significance of the initiative in the context of strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and the international community.

The UNESCO-Uzbekistan Prize named after Al-Biruni will serve as an important tool in promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence, fostering the creation of a more just and ethical future for all.
