The project will last till 2012 and its budget will amount to US$2.21 million. The parties will share the expenses in the following way: the GEF will allocate US$975,000, the UN Development Programme US$200,000 and the government of Uzbekistan US$1.04 million (in kind).

The project provides for drawing up a master plan to expand the system of protected natural areas of Uzbekistan, expansion and improvement of the efficiency of management as well as demonstration of new approaches in managing the protection of nature reserves.
