Nearly 15 trillion soums allocated for social support of vulnerable groups in Uzbekistan in 2024

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2024, nearly 15 trillion soums were allocated for the social protection system to support citizens in need, according to the National Agency for Social Protection of Uzbekistan.

A total of 2.6 million beneficiaries received assistance, including around 2 million families and more than 600,000 individuals.

Families in financial distress received 7.38 trillion soums. As a result, 1.27 million low-income families benefited, including assistance for children and financial support. Additionally, 37,300 families from specific districts of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region received one-time payments totaling 17.9 billion soums. Funeral assistance was provided to 155,100 families, totaling 241.6 billion soums, while 437,500 families received 311.8 billion soums for child births.

In the framework of payments to citizens without employment records or unable to work, 6.68 trillion soums were allocated for 696,800 people. Among them, 307,700 received disability benefits, 167,100 children under 18 received disability benefits, and 84,600 elderly individuals received age-related benefits. Additionally, 74,500 caregivers received care allowances, and 55,900 families received survivor’s benefits.

Since May 2024, an additional material assistance of 34.2 billion soums was provided to 7,300 elderly citizens in need of personal care.

To support low-income families amid rising energy tariffs, 291.3 billion soums in financial aid were provided to 1.1 million families. Furthermore, compensation of 500 million soums was paid for expenses exceeding the basic norms.

It is also noteworthy that the implementation of an electronic application system for benefits and financial assistance allowed for the provision of support to 77,000 low-income families for the first time.
