Navoi and Zeytinburnu become sister cities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of a training program for Uzbek regional leaders, a delegation from Uzbekistan is visiting Türkiye to exchange experience and study advanced urban planning and management practices. The delegation is led by Bobur Bekmurodov, Chairman of the Yuksalish movement.

Earlier, the program included meetings in the cities of Konya and Selçuklu, where long-term cooperation plans were outlined to strengthen the partnership between Uzbekistan and Türkiye.

A key event of the visit was the signing of a cooperation protocol between the mayor of Navoi, Dilmurod Ergashev, and the mayor of Istanbul’s Zeytinburnu district, Ömer Arısoy, officially granting Navoi and Zeytinburnu the status of sister cities.

Zeytinburnu is an important economic and trade hub due to its strategic location. It is home to numerous factories, markets, and shopping centers. In addition to a well-developed textile industry, the district plays a significant role in logistics and transportation.

The signed document covers a wide range of cooperation areas, including economic collaboration, education, healthcare, youth policy, sports, tourism development, cultural heritage preservation, environmental initiatives, energy, information technology, and transportation.

The parties agreed to facilitate regular exchanges of specialists and to support the business community and investors. Social issues, including assistance for children, people with disabilities, and the elderly, were also given significant attention.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation explored modern urban planning projects in Zeytinburnu, focusing on landscaping, ecological innovations, and infrastructure development.

It is worth noting that on 10 February, as part of the Uzbek delegation’s visit to Türkiye, a similar sister-city agreement was signed between Samarkand and Konya.
