Musical instruments shop to be opened in Nukus
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Traditional musical instruments shop of Azatbay Otarbaev, a leading master on production of traditional musical instruments of Karakalpakstan, will be opened in Nukus, Karakalpakstan on 5 May 2012. On the same day, a practical training on traditional musical instruments will open its work on 5 May.

Traditional musical instruments shop is initial stage of the joint project of the UNESCO and Korean Trust Fun on development of traditional craft, which was stated in 2010. Within the cooperation, several events were held in Uzbekistan in 2011 – national training on improving design and quality of handicraft products in Uzbekistan, National training on natural dyeing, traditional embroidery, carpet weaving and design.

Shop was created in close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Uzbekistan and “Tadbirkor Ayol” Uzbekistan Business Women’s Association. Within the project, the premises were repaired and furniture, equipment and materials were purchased.

The practical training is logical continuation of the activities on creation of the shop. The event is organized by the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan within the UNESCO and Korean Trust Fund project in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Uzbekistan, Fund Forum and “Tadbirkor Ayol” Uzbekistan Business Women’s Association.

The training is aimed at training 10 young craftsmen from Karakalpakstan on traditional methods on production of musical instruments. Azatbay Otarbaev will conduct the training. The training will last till 11 May 2012 and it is part of the Asrlar Sadosi Traditional Cultures Festival.

Within these events, it is also planned to hold presentation of compact disc of traditional Karakalpak music, which was prepared by the French Embassy in Uzbekistan and UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan.
