Museum to be named after Kyuzo Kato in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - In the continuation of the International Conference "Uzbekistan and Japan on the Great Silk Road", held in Tokyo, an exhibition on the researcher Kato Kyuzo was opened.

A Japanese archaeologist, anthropologist, historian and ethnographer, professor emeritus of the National Ethnological Museum of Japan, Kato-sensei specialized in studying the heritage, history, and architectural monuments of Uzbekistan. Today in Uzbekistan there is a house, a street and even a school named after Kato Kyuzo.

“Next year, at the initiative of the President of the country, a memorial complex with the Kato Museum will be created in Uzbekistan,” said Akmal Saidov, Chairman of the Committee on Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Self-Government Bodies of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

At the opening of the exhibition, a book about the researcher Kato Kyuzo "Uzbekistan in the heart of a Japanese scientist" was presented.

The widow of Kato Sadako Kato took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition:

- My heart is full of gratitude for such attention to the life and work of my spouse - for this wonderful exhibition and book. I am glad that my husband has many students left, and they will be able to continue the work that he loved so much. I know that in Japan there are still many such lovers in Uzbekistan.

The author and leader of the project “Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world” Firdavs Abdukhalikov handed the widow Kato the book-album “Cultural heritage of Central Asia in museums in Japan”.

Researcher at the Institute of Philosophy Kawasaki Kenzo noted:

- I am sincerely grateful to the scientific conference for such an excellent scientific component and the high composition of the participants. I believe such meetings are extremely important for strengthening the humanitarian ties of scientists around the world. Our countries are connected by a long history that is created by people. And I am happy that today I have the honor to tell about my teacher, who has already remained on the pages of the history of our two countries.
