The company said its subscribers with 3G handsets will be able to use new services, like video call and 3G Internet. It means that MTS-Uzbekistan will become one of the first mobile operators in Uzbekistan, which launched 3G network for commercial use.
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, became the first city in the region where MTS launched its next-generation network. The company plans to launch 3G network in 2009 other cities of Uzbekistan, including Samarkand, Bukhara, and Andijan.
UMTS (3G) is mobile communication of new generation and new opportunities for communication and use of Internet-service.
Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) OJSC is the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and the CIS. MTS fully owns MTS-Uzbekistan, which is the largest mobile operator of Uzbekistan in terms of subscribes’ number. The company served 5.06 million users at the end of the third quarter, 31 October.
