MTS-Uzbekistan launches 3G in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- MTS-Uzbekistan, a subsidiary of Mobile TeleSystems OJSC in Uzbekistan, launched its UMTS (3G) network in Samarkand city, largest Uzbek mobile operator said on 24 December 2008.

Samarkand city became the second city with the 3G network of MTS-Uzbekistan. On 4 December 2008, the operator opened its first 3G network in Tashkent city, capital city of Uzbekistan.

MTS-Uzbekistan subscribers with 3G handsets will be able to use new services- Video Call and 3G High-speed Internet.

Video Call service provides subscribers wide opportunity of communication. This service can communicate and see their interlocutors and their location.

3G High-Speed Internet, rendered on HSDPA technology, will provide opportunity to subscribers to use 3.6 Mbit/s. This will help users to serve via websites and exchange information.

MTS-Uzbekistan said that subscribers with 3G handsets in Samarkand can use services of 3G network in central parts of the city.

Tahir Irgaziev, marketing director of MTS-Uzbekistan, said launch of 3G network in Samarkand became another stage of development of new communication standard in Uzbekistan. He said now the company’s subscribers in Tashkent and Samarkand can call each using new network.

He added the company will continue expand 3G network in Tashkent and Samarkand, as well as construct 3G network in other largest cities of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, MTS-Uzbekistan said it will launch 3G networks Bukhara and Andijan. Bukhara is one of main tourism sights of Uzbekistan along with Samarkand.

Currently, three mobile operators from total five constructed their 3G networks. Beeline, subsidiary of Russia’s Vimpelcom in Uzbekistan, launched commercial 3G network on 3 December. UCell 3G network is working in testing mode now.
