MPs consider a bill aimed at expanding the powers of prosecutors

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis approved in the first reading a bill aimed at improving activities to ensure the powers of prosecutors when considering cases in courts.

At the meeting, deputies considered the draft law “On introducing amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with further improvement of activities to ensure the powers of the prosecutor when considering cases in courts.”

The bill introduces amendments and additions that determine that the prosecutor, in order to protect the interests of the state, has the right to participate in the consideration of cases related to land legal relations, state property, violation of environmental protection legislation, collections from the state budget, recognition of ownership of unauthorized construction, determination of the fact of ownership and use as private property and collection of customs duties.

It is also established that in civil, economic and administrative cases in which the law provides for the participation of the prosecutor, but considered without proper notification of the time and place of the trial, the prosecutor may request the case from the court for study and file a protest on it.

It was noted that the adoption of the bill will serve to increase the efficiency of the activities of the prosecutor’s office in assisting the administration of justice, full judicial protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, the interests of society and the state protected by law, as well as ensuring the rule of law.

The draft law was adopted by deputies.
